Until recently, this hugely popular messaging had a very basic API that allowed businesses to send/receive plaintext and image messages to their customers using LINE. This simple API was functional but was missing a lot of the powerful structured message abilities found in messengers like Facebook Messenger and Telegram.
On September 29th, LINE suddenly announced that they were deprecating this simple API and replacing it with a new messaging API that really ups their messaging game by adding support for a slew of new features. As a Smooch user, you don't have to update your code to take advantage of this, you automatically gain access to all the latest features without lifting a finger!
Here's what's new:
Action Buttons in Messages
Send action buttons that link to a website or deep-link to an app.
You can use carousels to combine pictures, text and action buttons in a horizontally scrolling list. It's great for presenting a menu of possible options or products to choose from.
You can create reply buttons that, once tapped, send a message on behalf of the user.
You can also create buttons called "Postbacks" that fire off a webhook your app can react to.
Remember, we'll always stay up to date with any new changes on LINE as well as any other messaging channel out there so you can focus on building your app, bot or business. We can't wait to see what you create!
